How this calculation works — and what it leaves out
Cash paid = hardware price + the number of full billing terms needed × the charge per term. For example, three years on a two-year plan needs two full payments, not one and a half. A renewal due exactly at the end of your chosen period is not counted.
Assumes service starts on purchase, the same plan and renewal price continue, and no refunds or promotional changes. Shipping, optional cover, phone data, replacement hardware, accessories and other fees are excluded. Add any known charges to your own budget; this is not a guaranteed lifetime cost.

The fundamental difference
Tractive DOG 6 is a live GPS/mobile tracker sold with a required Basic or Premium plan. The plan funds mobile connectivity and app features; without an active plan, live tracking does not operate.
PitPat GPS also uses satellites and mobile networks, but the £149 purchase includes mobile data with no activation or subscription fee. It is not an Apple Find My tag and does not need a passing iPhone to report its position.
That makes the comparison recurring cost and recovery features, not GPS versus activity. Tractive adds Live Tracking and escape alerts; PitPat removes the ongoing bill.
Real-time tracking and UK coverage
Tractive provides Live Tracking and virtual-fence escape alerts. PitPat says the tracker can take up to 90 seconds to wake and connect, but starting a complete live-tracking session can take a few minutes. It recommends tapping “Start a walk” in the app at the beginning of each outing; once connected, it says it sends a position about every 10 seconds while tracking.
Both products need a GPS view and usable mobile coverage. PitPat says it can use multiple mobile networks; Tractive describes unlimited range wherever its network service is available. In deep valleys, dense cover or mobile dead zones, either can be delayed.
Subscription costs over ownership
Tractive's official UK page listed DOG 6 hardware at £59 plus subscription when checked on 21 September 2026. Its plan selector advertises lower effective monthly prices for longer prepaid commitments. Prices can vary by location, so use the full amount and term shown to you, not an assumed universal monthly rate.
PitPat's official product page listed its GPS tracker at £149 on the same date and says its mobile service is included with no monthly fee. The break-even point therefore depends on the Tractive hardware promotion and plan term you choose.
Do not buy PitPat expecting the separate activity-only monitor: it does not supply the GPS product’s location service.

Activity and health tracking
Tractive DOG 6 includes activity, sleep and barking monitoring. PitPat GPS also includes activity and rest monitoring: its FAQ confirms exercise, distance and calorie features are included alongside location tracking. You do not need its separate activity-only monitor for those features.
PitPat allows permissioned sharing with family or a dog walker. Tractive lists family sharing, worldwide coverage in supported areas and 365-day location history under Premium; Basic includes 24-hour history. Compare the plan that supplies the features you will actually use.
Battery and recharge
Tractive claims up to 14 days for DOG 6 with Power Saving Zones, or up to 6 days without them. These are manufacturer maxima, not DPR-measured runtime; sustained live tracking and weak signal can shorten battery life.
PitPat GPS has a sealed rechargeable battery with wireless charging. PitPat describes several days, depending on usage and signal. The one-year coin-cell claim belongs to the separate activity monitor.
Physical design and fit
Tractive DOG 6 measures 71 × 29 × 17mm, weighs 39g and is recommended for dogs over 4kg. It carries an IP68 waterproof rating.
PitPat GPS is under 60mm long and weighs about 30g. PitPat describes it as fully waterproof. For a small dog, test collar balance and fit before relying on either device off lead.
