UK dog booster-seat evidence register
A source-by-source record covering nine exact dog car-seat models: published fit information, source type, evidence class and the boundary between comfort claims and collision-protection evidence.
The practical problem behind this dataset is simple: a raised dog seat can be useful for fit, comfort, visibility or limiting movement, but those functions do not establish that the same product protects a dog in a collision. Product listings frequently place seat attachment, an included tether and words such as “safe” close together. This register separates those ideas so journalists, veterinary publishers, dog-travel writers and owners can inspect the underlying evidence themselves.
What the nine-model snapshot found

- 2 rows have a historical independent pilot finding: the Kurgo Skybox and Snoozer Lookout I.
- 1 row has manufacturer-reported dynamic testing benchmarked against UN ECE R129: the Tavo Maeve.
- 6 rows had no matching independent booster result or certification located in the sources checked.
- EzyDog Drive Booster Seat: EzyDog UK calls this model “crash-tested” but does not link a public result on that page and also warns that it may not prevent injury to the passenger or dog in an accident.
These are evidence-source classes, not safety scores. “No independent evidence located” does not mean a product failed, while manufacturer-reported testing is not relabelled as an independent certification. The downloadable CSV and JSON preserve the same classification for reuse and fact-checking.

How to read the register
“Current product role” describes what the product is sold to do in an ordinary car journey. It does not convert a comfort or visibility product into a restraint system. “Published fit limit” records the named source's current dimensions or weight statement; it is not a test result and does not prove that every dog below that limit fits comfortably.
“Independent evidence located” records whether this review found a relevant independent result for the named booster. “No independent booster certification located” means exactly that: the search did not find one in the sources checked. It must not be rewritten as “unsafe”, “safe” or “failed”. Absence of located evidence is not a test outcome.
The two historical findings in this version come from the Center for Pet Safety's 2015 booster-seat pilot. They describe the products and connection systems tested at that time. Product construction, instructions and model names can change, so the register does not assume that every later unit is identical. Conversely, a later product page does not erase a historical finding unless new relevant evidence supports that conclusion.
Methodology and update rules
- Identify the exact current model and prefer its manufacturer page. If no stable manufacturer page for that UK variant is located, record and label the exact retailer/model source instead.
- Check the Center for Pet Safety booster-seat pilot and current certified-products register for a relevant product or setup.
- Describe a finding narrowly: product, connection and date matter. Do not generalise one test to every later model.
- Record the source URL and check date. Preserve a distinction between manufacturer statements and independent evidence.
- Invite corrections with a primary source, current instruction manual or independent test record, then document any revision.
The register covers the four exact products in the current buying guide, the Kurgo Skybox because it appears in the historical independent pilot, and four current market models that illustrate materially different claim patterns: KONG Ultimate, Luther Bennett Travel Dog Pod, Tavo Maeve and EzyDog Drive. Manufacturer pages are preferred; where no stable manufacturer page for the exact UK variant was located, the source is explicitly labelled as an exact retailer listing. It remains a bounded market snapshot, not a catalogue of every booster sold in the UK.
Limitations
- No vehicle-impact testing was commissioned or performed by Dog Product Reviews.
- Retailer descriptions and customer ratings are not treated as crash evidence.
- Weight limits do not replace checking the internal dimensions, the dog's posture, the vehicle manual and the restraint manufacturer's instructions.
- A booster and a restraint should be evaluated separately. An extension tether can change the connection path of a tested harness.
- The Highway Code describes suitable restraint but does not certify individual products.
